For the following two weeks, the exhibition will be open Thursdays, 2:00-7:00 pm, Fridays, 2:00-5:00, Saturdays, 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. On Open Studios weekend, the gallery will be open Thursday, May 1st, 2:00-7:00, Friday, May 2nd, 2:00 to 9:00pm, Saturday, and Sunday, May 3rd and May 4th, 11:00 to 6:00 pm.

Somerville Toy Camera Festival: Urban Photography Workshop

The Somerville Museum will participate in the 2nd annual Somerville Toy Camera Festival with an exhibition of toy camera photography created by local youth. In collaboration with Parts and Crafts collective maker space, the Museum will sponsor a special urban photography workshop on May 3rd, starting with a crash course on the history of photography in the urban environment and proceed to a boots-on-the ground foray into the storefronts and authentic gritty streetscapes along Union Square's Somerville Avenue. The real Somerville will finally be located in the lens of low tech digital keychain cameras.

The Masque of Beauty: Italian Musical Dynasties at the English Court

Mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal joins El Dorado Ensemble (Carol Lewis, Janet Haas, Mai-Lan Broekman, Paul Johnson, Alice Mroszczyk, violas da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, lute) in a Mother's Day concert of songs and instrumental music by Ferrabosco, Lupo, Bassano, and other Italian musicians who lived in Elizabethan and Jacobean England.

Opening reception: Project LOCAL: Immigrant Dreams and Realities in Somerville

Exhibition:  Thursday June 5th through Saturday June 28th during normal gallery hours.
Join us for a celebration with Laura Hoguet's 8th grade students from Somerville's Healey School.  Building on the Museum's Project Local, a hands-on history learning program, Ms Hoguet's students are examining the dreams versus the reality for recent immigrant communities in Somerville.  Original research, oral histories from families and friends, and visual art will enliven this important conversation about the contemporary immigrant experience, led by Somerville's next generation.

The Race to Laurel Hill: General Grant's failed attempt to get around Lee's left flank during the spring campaign of 1864

Dr. Daniel Breen, Professor of History at Newbury College.

This series is presented to commemorate the 150 years that have passed since the Civil War, which fundamentally changed our nation.  Dr. Breen will continue his one time only series of talks concerning the activities of the Somerville Guard, Company E, 39th Regiment during the Civil War.
